PRACWA Unit

The 10 bed rehabilitation unit offers single room accommodation and private ensuite bathrooms. Certain rooms offer access to outside garden areas. The rehabilitation unit encourages resuming daily living routines and twice daily gym attendance to increase independence and improve function. In this supportive environment, the qualified staff can assist you to conduct daily living activities, which may currently be difficult for you. The staff value providing a high quality evidenced based service to assist patients to achieve their rehabilitation needs and goals. A patient centred approach is used to include patients and their families in goal setting to ensure the best treatment outcomes for all patients.

Services include:

• Dietetics:

  • Our Dietitian provides a full range of nutrition services to all clinical areas of the hospital. Services are evidenced-based and patient-centred and occur within the multidisciplinary team. Our Dietitian is a qualified Accredited Practising Dietitian.

  • The service is available to all in-patients at Attadale Private Hospital. A referral from medical, nursing or allied health staff is required.

  • Attadale Private Hospital does not currently have an out-patient Dietitian service. A listing of Private Practise Dietitians can be found at www.daa.asn.au

• Occupational Therapy:

  • Functional assessment of skills in self-care, home duties and performance at work and leisure activities.

  • Education and training in self-care and home duties to increase independence.

  • Functional rehabilitation to improve strength, endurance and balance.

  • Upper limb rehabilitation and hand therapy.

  • Cognitive assessment and education.

  • Home assessment by an occupational therapist if required to improve safety and independence.

  • Prescription and advice about equipment in the home and to aide mobility.

• Physiotherapy:

  • Individually designed rehabilitation group programs in feature gymnasium twic daily.

  • Individually designed home exercise programs.

  • Diagnosis and treatment of all musculo-skeletal conditions.

  • Therapeutic ultrasound.

  • TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) pain relief therapy.

• Social Work:

  • Coordination of community and support services.

  • Coordination of respite in your own home or community.

  • Support and care at times of loss and grief.

  • Assistance in resolving conflicts.

  • Assistance with legal issues such as Enduring Power of Attorney.

  • Carer support and education.

  • Counselling.

• Speech Pathology:

  • Assessment and management of inpatients with swallowing difficulties.

  • Assessment and management of inpatients with communication difficulties (eg. speech, the use and understanding of language, voice and fluency)

  • Education and liaison with patients' families regarding swallowing and communication difficulties

  • Videofluoroscopy (swallow x-rays) for inpatients can be organised in Consultation with SKG Radiology at Hollywood Private Hospital as required/necessary.
