Day Surgery Procedures
Attadale Private Hospital’s Day Surgery Unit offers first class standards of accommodation. We have highly skilled staff, each member being carefully selected to ensure we provide you with the very best health care available. The Day Surgery comprises of a 4 bed ward each with a television and telephone.
When You Arrive for Day Surgery
Please proceed to the Main Reception on your arrival at the hospital. After completing admission papers and settling any outstanding monies, you will then be directed to the Day Surgery by one of our nursing staff.
Shortly after arriving at your room you will be provided with a gown to change into. Nursing staff will check your pulse, blood pressure and other observations and go through your medical history. Prior to your surgery you will be seen by your Anaesthetist, who will ask you about your medical history.
About an hour before your operation you may be given an injection or tablets. This will make you feel drowsy and relaxed and may make your mouth feel dry. This is called pre-med. During your operation, your anaesthetist will be responsible for constantly monitoring your breathing, pulse and blood pressure. At the appropriate time, you will be transferred to the theatre where your procedure will take place. It is important that you realise that you will encounter some waiting periods throughout your stay. You may consider bringing something to read.
The type of operation and time it takes, might require you may have an intravenous drip inserted while you sleep. By careful administration of the anaesthetic, the anaesthetist will safely control your waking up and recovery.
Following Your Day Stay Procedure
You will return to your bed following your procedure to make your recovery as comfortable as possible. Our staff will serve light refreshments. Patients are required to stay a minimum of two hours following a general anaesthetic.
You are advised to arrange transport home as you must not drive a car for 24 hours following your procedure (your motor vehicle insurance will not cover you). A responsible adult must accompany you and it is advisable that you have somebody with you for the remainder of the day, as well as night. In addition, please do not schedule any meetings or organise to sign any legal papers for 24 hours following your procedure.
Preparing To Leave the Day Surgery
Prior to discharge you will be given post-operative instructions to take home. These instructions include information on the side effects that may occur following an anaesthetic and details on routine care following your procedure.
